I think solar window shades is not only cost effective, its energy efficient too since it can control the amount of heat that would enter your home thus saving more energy.

Also, I would really discourage you from trying to cut corners by going with a generic company that produces budget patio canopies. It may seem like you’re getting a good deal in the beginning, but what I found is that most of these products will wear out after one or two seasons (if not sooner), and you wind up paying more in the long run because you’ll wind up repairing it, or even having to replace it, sooner than you think

Good article. In some circumstances exterior coverings do offer a better solution than interior window blinds.

This is a good stuff but if you are wanting natural light, you should try window tint. Even cheaper, try aluminum foil w/the shiny side out. It will reflect the sunlight and reduce the heat. If you still want some light, leave a gap at the top or bottom for light.

Really during hot summer external window blinds and sun screens helps the house and office to remain cool.
