Sun Awnings

You may have seen these items springing up all over the place especially in pubs and other venues since the smoking ban came into force in the UK.

Sun awnings are a handy way to add an external shelter to your property that, when not in use, can be retracted back into a cassette. These sun awnings come in all shapes and sizes but the most common for residential homes are the type that bolt onto a wall and project out via two arms.

Sun awnings are ideal for those who enjoy being outside but cannot sit in the sun. They provide shaded area and can also add value to your property.

Of course people can buy these products as a rain shelter. Extra caution has to be used in these conditions as water can quickly build up on the sun awning fabric creating a puddle. Once the puddle has formed, every drop of water that lands on the fabric will head to the puddle and it will quickly grow.

Water is very heavy – too heavy for the awning to cope with and subsequently it is likely to break. Especially dangerous if you happen to be under it at the time.

Having said that, if the correct angle is put on the awning then water should just run off and there is then no pooling to cause this issue.

Check out the next post where I will give you further information on these products.
