Here in the UK this weekend we have had lovely sunny weather. Perhaps now more than ever people are considering enhancing their home with sun awnings. Previously I have discussed how a sun awning can make a very attractive addition to your home as well as increase your homes value as well as providing valuable sun protection. For some though a sun awning may become more of a necessity. Continue reading
Roller Garage Door – Safety
Previously I have talked about the different types of garage doors and their mechanics. Today I am going to talk about the control systems that are the brain boxes for these systems.
Up until a couple of years ago the garage door market had several different key companies supplying and installing garage doors. Control boxes were often unique to the individual companies. Some included battery backups and alarm systems as well as the standard remote controls. Continue reading
Sun Awning Info
Sun awnings can make a great difference to your home
The first known sun awnings were used by ancient Egyptians and Syrians and they’re still popular today! Patio and window sun awnings do much more than just add beauty to your home!
Sun awnings are the perfect way to add shade to your patio or deck. They will allow you to use your patio during the hottest part of the day or even when it’s raining! They will even provide protection from snow in the winter time! Continue reading
Automatic Electric Garage Doors
Another home improvement product that is particularly desirable is the Automated Garage Doors. A lot of the home improvement companies around at the moment install these garage doors all the time. The great thing is that technology is improving and the price is falling.
Basically an automated or automatic electric garage door allows you to open and close the garage door without putting in any effort. More often than not the garage door is operated via a remote control. This has many advantages. If it happens to be raining Continue reading
Pipex – I Am Rid of Them at Last
Well at last I am pleased to report that after 3 weeks without the Internet I finaly have the Internet back- Not from Pipex though – oh no – Still others in my situation are without Internet thanks to the poor service from Pipex.
I am now with another supplier who quite refreshingly did as promised, connected me on the day they said, provided the equipment as promised, delivered when they said they would with no fuss. Continue reading
Sun Awnings
You may have seen these items springing up all over the place especially in pubs and other venues since the smoking ban came into force in the UK.
Sun awnings are a handy way to add an external shelter to your property that, when not in use, can be retracted back into a cassette. These sun awnings come in all shapes and sizes but the most common for residential homes are the type that bolt onto a wall and project out via two arms.
Sun awnings are ideal for those who enjoy being outside but cannot sit in the sun. They provide shaded area and can also add value to your property.
Of course people can buy these products as a rain shelter. Extra caution has to be used in these conditions as water can quickly build up on the sun awning fabric creating a puddle. Once the puddle has formed, every drop of water that lands on the fabric will head to the puddle and it will quickly grow.
Water is very heavy – too heavy for the awning to cope with and subsequently it is likely to break. Especially dangerous if you happen to be under it at the time.
Having said that, if the correct angle is put on the awning then water should just run off and there is then no pooling to cause this issue.
Check out the next post where I will give you further information on these products.
Pipex Update – Still no Internet
The saga with Pipex internet continues. As you may have read on my previous post, Pipex has had a fault with my internet for over 2 weeks and 3 days.
Each time I phone Pipex (after holding at my cost for 25+ minutes) I am basically fobbed off.
Last time I called I was promised that the situation would be resolved within 2 days. Continue reading
Pipex Internet – The worst company I have come across
This is a little off topic but I am so annoyed that I simply have to voice my feelings.
Pipex are a UK ISP (internet service provider) I have been with them many years as I felt that their service was very good. Unfortunately of recent years this is not the case as you will hear.
I have now been without my Pipex internet for 2 weeks and 10 hours. I rely heavily on the internet for many of my websites. I really cannot be without it for more than a few hours without it affecting my day to day activities. Continue reading
Exterior Conservatory Sun Blinds
If you have a conservatory or are thinking about getting a conservatory then you will at some point find you will need some kind of shelter from the sun.
Conservatories are a great addition to your home, they give you extra space and the thought of sitting down with a cup of tea, reading a magazine and occasionally gazing out into the garden seem ideal.
Unfortunately, in reality a conservatory can quickly become and uncomfortable hot stuffy room that is unbearable to sit in and damages any furniture, electrical equipment etc by the power of the sun. Continue reading
Nintendo Wii – First Thoughts
I’m not much of a gamer myself but I am partial to a bit of Guitar Hero on the Xbox 360 and own a Nintendo DS. I was quite happy with leaving my gaming at this.
I heard about the Nintendo Wii and was curious to see it in action. The other night I pooped round a friends house and saw someone playing bowling. It looked like a great novelty so after very little persuasion I decided I simply must have one to play on myself.

Here is the first negative. I started at my local blockbuster video store where I knew they sold it. I was told that there was no stock and there was no expected date. I thought this was fair enough as they are only a small store. Off I went to PC world – I hate this store. You can never get anyone to help you in there. After standing around for a while I decided to queue at the checkout and ask the operator there. No stock and no due date. I then headed off to Currys, Comet and Toys R Us. Exactly the same story. This was becoming a joke. It would appear that Nintendo had not supplied nearly enough consoles for the demand. Continue reading
